IN THE SPOTLIGHT ... Keith and Sarah Knapp
Keith and Sarah first heard of Markoma in December of 1995. They were recently engaged and Keith had just finished student teaching in Michigan, while Sarah was in her Junior year at Cornerstone University, where they met. Sarah's brother and his wife (Paul and Wendy Bunning) were the boy's dorm parents then. After Keith and Sarah came for a visit during Christmas Break, they both felt the Lord's unmistakable leading toward Markoma. They were married in early June 1996, and moved from Michigan to Tahlequah 11 days later, living, for that summer off of wedding gift money. Sarah, being a speech and communications major, taught speech and drama, while Keith taught many of the sciences and physical education classes, as well as coaching soccer and track. Over the past 6 years, the Knapps have been Senior class and Junior class sponsors 2 years each. Sarah has organized the Talent Show and assisted with many banquets, mass-mailings, fund-raisers, and been a friend to many students over the years. Keith has taught Science classes and coached each year at Markoma, and has also taught some lower level math classes and P.E. He spent 3 years as Athletic Director, 4 years as farm manager and 2 years as bus-driver.
After just their first year at Markoma, they were blessed with Adam in July 1997. This gave Sarah the opportunity to scale back to teaching just one speech class. Brandon was born in 2000, and baby number 3 is due this May.
The Knapps have always had a heart for foreign missions. Being drawn toward Africa, they were able to go with their church to Malawi, Africa, in 1999. To see the people's open, warmhearted reception of the gospel served to fan the flame of desire for world missions. The Knapps still have a heart for Africa, but the Lord has given them a different role for now. Being so far from family since marriage has prevented them from developing close relationships with siblings. This, in part, has led the Knapps to pursue moving closer to family. The Knapps plan on moving to Colorado this coming June, shortly after the baby is born. Please pray that the Lord will provide the wisdom and means to "tie up the loose ends. The Knapps will be greatly missed on campus but we wish them all God’s best as they begin a new chapter in their Christian ministry. They will forever be a part of the Markoma family!
